For the month of March 2011, shoppers in the Southend-on-Sea area can lend their support to Southend Hospital Radio, through the Waitrose Community Matters programme.

Each month, shoppers at Waitrose are given a green token to put to one of three charities. Donations are made to those charities based on the amount of tokens each charity gets.

In the Leigh-on-Sea branch of Waitrose this month, Southend Hospital Radio has been selected as one of the three charities, and if you want to lend your support, drop your green token in the Southend Hospital Radio box.

We’d like to thank Waitrose for allowing us to be one of this month’s chosen charities, and to all of the shoppers at Waitrose Leigh-on-Sea for showing your support.

Just a quick blog to let anyone know who hasn’t already been informed that Southend Hospital Radio will be closed for a while due to flooding earlier this week. The Hospital are arranging fans to dry out both the HR and Premier Bedside next door early next week. A timeframe for when the station can reopen is not yet known but hopefully sooner rather than later. I understand the 24hour service is still in operation and that Pete will be going down on Friday to check the computers.

We’ll try to keep everyone informed about a reopening as soon as we know anything.
